ADHD and Accountability: The Key to Getting Things Done
"I know what I've got to do but I just can't do it"
That's an extract you've probably heard from your ADHD brain one too many times.
Here’s the thing: knowing what to do and actually doing it are two very different things, especially when you have ADHD.
That’s where accountability comes in.
Accountability bridges the gap between intention and action.
But there is a misconception about what accountability actually is:
It’s not about:
❌ having someone watching over your shoulder
❌ motivating you to carry on.
❌ making you feel external pressure to complete the task.
that's not sustainable in the long run.
It’s actually about:
✅ having the right structure
✅ to keep you moving forward
✅ even when motivation runs out.
I can tell you all the secrets about how to build that structure of accountability.
So that when the motivation dies... the task doesn't die with it.
But first, let me explain why accountability matters:
1️⃣It keeps you on track: Having regular check-ins or an accountability partner gives you the structure you need to stay focused on your goals.
2️⃣It builds consistency: With ADHD, it’s easy to lose momentum. Accountability provides the external push to keep going, even when you’re tempted to stop.
3️⃣It helps you follow through: When someone else is counting on you (or you have a system in place), you’re far more likely to follow through and get things done.
4️⃣That’s why I’ve made accountability a core part of my coaching program—because it works.
