Controlling my ADHD impulses
Hey,
As my business has started to pick up momentum, I’ve had to face a familiar challenge:
My ADHD brain wants to jump in every direction at once.
➝ New ideas
➝ Exciting projects
➝ Fun distractions… they’re all calling my name.
Historically, I’d let that excitement take over, and I’d end up:
→ Stretched too thin
→ Taking on too much
→ And losing focus
I’m sure you recognise this feeling.
But this time, I’m doing something different.
I’ve been working hard to control those urges, check back in with myself, and focus on the things that will actually move the needle and keep my momentum going.
I’ll be honest—it hasn’t been easy.
There are plenty of things I don’t want to do right now.
But I know that if I focus on them now, they’ll allow me to do the things I want to do later.
This has been the pivotal change for me in controlling my impulses.
Keeping front of mind what it is that I actually want to be spending my time on.
For me, this is spending time with my kids.
So now, I have a reminder on my desktop every morning that says: “Get sh*t done early. Spend time with your kids”.
This way, I procrastinate less, so I can get things done faster, and get straight to what I want to be doing.
This is a new skill for me—learning to:
- Strip things down
- Stay focused
- And manage my impulses
It’s uncomfortable and unfamiliar, but it’s been an absolute game-changer for my business and my life in general.
