Everything you thought you knew about ADHD is wrong? 🤔

Hey,

People talk a lot of **** about ADHD.

There are heaps of misconceptions about ADHD.

So I thought I’d clear some of this **** up.

Here are 17 things ADHD is not:

1) ADHD is not Laziness or lack of willpower. Its fear of failure.

2) ADHD is not a made-up excuse - its a real biological difference.

3) ADHD does not make you stupid - it gives you heightened intelligence in other areas like EQ.

4) ADHD is not over-diagnosed - our understanding of what it is and how it manifests is just developing.

5) ADHD is not hyperactivity - for most its an internal restless stream of thoughts that never stops.

6) ADHD Medication is not a cure - its only one piece of the puzzle.

7) ADHD is not a modern phenomenon caused by social media - but it is heightened by modern society.

8) ADHD is not something you "grow out of" - it continues to affect adults with ADHD.

9) ADHD doesn't require "just trying harder" - it requires a different approach. It requires understanding of your unique brain wiring.

10) ADHD does not just affect boys - its actually just as common in women and girls, it just presents differently.

11) ADHD does not reduce your chances of being successful - there are heaps of highly successful ADHDers.

12) ADHD is not a disadvantage - it just means your disproportionately better at some things.

13) ADHD doesn't mean you can't focus. It means you need to give more care to developing your focus muscle.

14) ADHD is not untreatable - with natural strategies and knowledge - you can massively improve the quality of your life.

15) ADHD does not mean lack of care - it often means difficulty expressing it.

16) ADHD does not mean immature - it means a difficulty in regulating emotions.

17) ADHD does not mean lack of discipline - it means an imbalance in neurotransmitters which make hard things harder.

18) ADHD is not an illness or a disease - its a delay in development of certain areas of the brain.

Ultimately, ADHD can manifest itself in many ways.

But understanding that these are misconceptions is important.

Reality is. Your identity with ADHD is whatever you choose it to be.

If you want to attach yourself to the identity of someone who lets ADHD drag them down.

That's what you will create.

If you want to be someone who's ADHD is a positive part of them. You can create that too.

The choice is yours.

If you found this helpful.

And you learned something new. Or changed your perception.
