7 Ways to Feel Better About Goals

It’s almost New Year so you guessed it!

….well not quite yet….

FIRST…

We need to be inundated with messages everywhere we look explaining the “new technique” for goal setting.

If you are anything like me, all this does is highlight the fact that

  1. we typically SUCK at goal setting and hang on to “we SHOULD” do this

  2. get overwhelmed by it and bounce between various methods

  3. don’t follow through with most goals

  4. feel even worse afterward

  5. repeat next year

“What the hell" right?????

Are we all THAT broken that we just can’t do this no matter how hard we try year after year?

“What is wrong with me"?

“Everyone else seems to be able to do this”

Sound familiar?

This week I heard the SAME THING from almost every client.

“I really want to focus on my ability to set goals and stick to them next year”

I’ll share with you what I have been sharing with them.

  1. Let’s try to let go of the paradigm that we “should” do anything.

  2. Let’s get clear on our vision and mission for next year

  3. Let’s focus on our identity and who we want to be in 2024

  4. Let’s identify the habits, routines, and skills that will help us move towards our vision

  5. Let’s practice self-compassion, self-acceptance, and grow self-awareness.

  6. Let’s let go of trying to do what everyone else is doing so we can feel whole.

  7. Let’s focus on being effective in our day.
